Results of “The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art” Contest 2025
“The
Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art” Contest (NCC) is a math contest
designed for students of Grades 3 to 10 as a warm-up for the Canadian
Math Contests. The contest is named after the Chinese ancient classic
book "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art". NCC 2025 is organized
by Grand River Chinese School. A total of 73 students wrote the NCC
this year.
NCC began in 2008, and has tested 1377 attendees. The attendees of NCC
have achieved a lot of distinctive honours in various other Canadian
math contests. By 2019, attendees of NCC have been listed 568 times on
their honour rolls, including 118 times of distinguished awards and
achievements such perfect scores, gold, silver and bronze awards and
golden standard (after 2020, we no longer gather NCC attendee data in
other Canadian contests).

on Nov. 22
2025,
2:30pm to 4:00pm. Students achieving outstanding results in the
contest will receive certificates
and trophies/medals in 5 separate age
groups.
NCC25
is a math contest designed for students of Grades 3 to 10 as a warm-up
for the Canadian Math Contests (Thales Contest for Grade 3,
Byron-Germain Contest for Grade 4, Fibonacci Contest for Grade 5,
Pythagoras Contest for Grade 6, Gauss Contest for Grades 7 and 8,
Pascal Contest for Grade 9, and Cayley Contest for Grade 10). The NCC
is named after the Chinese ancient classic book "The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art"

During
2008 to 2024,
NCC has tested 1304
participants, many of them further wrote various Canadian math
contests, and have been listed on honour rolls of those contests (by
2019) for
568 times including 118 times of golden standards, gold, silver and
bronze medals, perfect scores, national and regional champions.
Participating
in NCC25
is free. Local students who were born in 2010
to 2017
are eligible. Students from other areas may also attend if they are
able to travel to Waterloo for the contest. To sign up for this
contest, you need to submit registration form here by
Oct. 31. Other details will be notified to eligible students by email.
